A few quick questions, then a plain recommendation and a fixed monthly fee in writing. About two minutes. No monthly tie in.
- Books current in the software
- Corporation tax filed alongside
The problem usually starts months earlier, when invoices, purchases or money taken from the company have not been dealt with properly. We keep the books current throughout the year. When the deadline arrives, the work is already in shape.

What changes before the next annual deadline
Current books, ready for the close
Bank transactions, invoices and purchases are dealt with before the accounting period ends.
Companies House filed on time
The accounts are prepared, checked with you and submitted by the company deadline.
Corporation tax dealt with alongside
The company tax return is prepared from the same books and its payment date is explained.
Where the annual scramble usually starts
The difficult part often appears long before anything is due at Companies House.
- Filing
“I have reached the deadline, but half the year’s purchases are still sitting in my inbox.”
The filing waits while old transactions are reconstructed, and you still cannot judge what the company owes.
- Dividends
“I paid myself whenever the bank looked healthy, and now I am unsure how it should be recorded.”
The accounts cannot be finished until those payments have been identified and treated correctly.
- Software
“My software is open every week, but I cannot tell whether the books are actually current.”
An open bank feed does not show whether invoices, purchases and payments have been dealt with.
- Sorted
What changes once advice reaches the books
Purchases and income are dealt with as they happen. Money taken from the company is recorded properly. The accounts can then be prepared without rebuilding the whole year.
Quick check · no email
If you cannot say whether the books are current, what corporation tax may be due and who owns the filing date, it is worth a conversation.
Answer these three questions about your company as it stands this week.
Question 1 of 3
Do you know whether every bank transaction is dealt with in the software?
Do you know what the company is likely to owe before payment is due?
Do you know who checks and files each annual submission?
Those gaps can make the filing date harder than it needs to be. Answer the quiz, and if it fits, a call with Ryan is the next step.
Most of the work is covered, with one part worth checking. At One Abacus, Ryan and Simon do the work and take the calls, so the owner of each deadline is clear.
Your set-up covers the main risks around the annual filing. The small business guides can help you check the dates and responsibilities again.
Two ways the annual filing can run
Both can produce filed accounts, but the work during the year is different.

Accounts and corporation tax are planned together.
The agreed monthly fee covers the work.

What clients say
One Abacus was recommended to me by several friends and I truly owe them a huge favour as this company has been exemplary! As a new limited company myself and a novice to the contracting world I have had tons of questions and they have been dealt with promptly, effectively and in an approachable and really helpful manner. I couldn't recommend One Abacus enough!
I am currently using one Abacus for sorting out all my freelance accounts and i have to say everything has been perfect with my accountant. they are normally always available even on the weekends when you need something sorted out really quickly. they have sorting out everything from helping with mortgage and notifying when you to pay your tax. really nice and responsive people to talk to if you have questions.
One Abacus has provided me a comprehensive service, very professional accountant, but friendly at the same time, maximum availability, I couldn't be happier.
How the first 90 days prepare the next filing
The work starts with the books and finishes with every annual responsibility assigned.
Your deadline map is agreed
Ryan checks the company set-up, due dates and any gaps before the fee is agreed.
The books are current in software
FreeAgent or Xero is configured, the bank feed is linked and transactions are brought up to date.
The tax position is checked early
Income, purchases and money taken from the company are reviewed before the accounts close.
The filing plan is ready
You know who handles the accounts, corporation tax and Companies House submissions when each date arrives.
When another kind of service may fit better
Businesses wanting a one-off signature on accounts prepared elsewhere need another firm.
A business seeking bookkeeping only falls outside the monthly company package.
Charities, CICs and construction or CIS-led work sit outside the firm’s focus.
Stock-heavy retail and ecommerce businesses with tills need a different service model.
The quiz will point you towards the right next step before any conversation takes place.
What to settle before the accounts are filed
Does the monthly fee include Year end accounts and corporation tax?
The monthly fee covers FreeAgent or Xero, support with the books, payroll where needed, VAT returns, annual accounts, corporation tax, the confirmation statement and the director’s own return. Advice is included. The price is agreed in writing before work starts and does not change mid-year.
Can you prepare Year end accounts if I already have an accountant?
Yes. You can contact One Abacus before deciding whether to move. If you switch, the firm arranges the handover and checks the next deadlines. Ryan and Simon only sign off work they prepare, so they establish what is complete and what still needs doing.
Do I have to move to different accounting software?
No. If FreeAgent or Xero is already set up well, One Abacus can usually continue with it. If the set-up needs attention, the team configures the software, links the bank feed and shows you the day-to-day routine. That keeps books current.
What happens with my current accountant if I switch?
If you move, One Abacus contacts your current accountant for the handover information and confirms the next deadlines. You do not need to wait until the company year closes. The software and registrations are checked during onboarding, then responsibility for the agreed filings moves across.
When are limited company annual accounts due?
For most limited companies, annual accounts are due at Companies House nine months after the accounting period ends. Corporation tax is due shortly afterwards, and the company tax return has its filing deadline. One Abacus checks the dates that apply and works back from them.
What happens if my company books are not up to date?
One Abacus checks what is missing from FreeAgent or Xero, including bank transactions, invoices, purchases and money taken from the company. The books are brought up to date before the accounts are prepared. If work needs correcting, the scope is explained before signing or filing.
