A few quick questions, then a plain recommendation and a fixed monthly fee in writing. About two minutes. No monthly tie in.

  • CT600 deadline in the diary
  • Tax cash kept apart

The awkward part is finding out what the company owes when payment is close. We keep the books current, explain the amount, and include the CT600 within your agreed monthly package.

One Abacus prepares and files CT600s for small limited companies in South London. One fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing, covers the year-end work and other filings, and the person doing the work answers the phone.

What gets settled before the deadline

01

Know the bill while there is time

We work it out before payment is close, so the company can keep the cash apart.

02

Have the CT600 filed on time

We prepare the return from current books and take the filing date off your desk.

03

Ask before a decision changes the bill

The person doing your work answers when a purchase, dividend or new contract needs discussing.

Where the tax surprise usually begins

The problem often starts with a reasonable decision made before the tax amount is known.

  • Purchase

“I spent the tax money on equipment before I had worked out what the company would owe.”

The purchase left less cash available when payment became due.

  • Dividends

“I paid myself from the company whenever cash came in, then found out the tax treatment later.”

The withdrawals left too little cash for the company’s own bill.

  • Tax

“I waited until year end to sort the books, so the bill landed when a supplier needed paying.”

A late estimate forced two important payments to compete for the same cash.

  • Sorted

What changes once the tax advice is in the room

The books stay current. The company tax estimate is revisited during the year. Purchases, dividends and payments can be considered before they reduce the cash reserved for HMRC.

If you cannot say what your company owes, when it is due and who will file the CT600, it is worth a conversation.

Answer these three questions using what is in place for your company today.

Question 1 of 3

Do you know what the company is likely to owe before payment is due?

What changes when tax is planned before filing

Both approaches can file the form, but the timing changes what the owner can do beforehand.

A year-end filing service

Accounts are prepared after the period ends.

Tax is calculated alongside the annual work.

Questions are handled when requested.

The scope depends on the engagement.

An ongoing monthly package

Books are kept current in the software.

The tax estimate is discussed during the year.

Questions sit inside the agreed package.

Annual filings are covered together.

Checks to make before the company tax deadline

Eight yes or no answers show whether the return and payment are being prepared early enough.

  • 01

Is the company’s accounting period end confirmed?

Yes means the correct payment and filing dates can be identified.

  • 02

Are the books current enough to calculate the bill?

Yes means the estimate is based on the year so far, rather than a late reconstruction.

  • 03

Has every business bank transaction been dealt with?

Yes means unexplained payments are not waiting until the annual work begins.

  • 04

Are sales invoices and business expenses in the software?

Yes means income and costs can be reviewed before the period closes.

  • 05

Has money paid to directors been identified correctly?

Yes means salary, dividends and other withdrawals can be treated properly.

  • 06

Is the likely company tax bill reviewed before year end?

Yes means decisions can be discussed while there is still time to act.

  • 07

Is cash being kept apart for HMRC?

Yes means a supplier payment or purchase is less likely to use the tax money.

  • 08

Are both the payment and filing dates in the diary?

Yes means the earlier payment date will not be mistaken for the filing deadline.

What sits around the company tax filing

The return works best when the books and accounts are handled together.

Accounts

Year-end accounts built from current books

The annual accounts are prepared without reconstructing the whole year at the deadline.

Tax

The company bill worked out early

The amount is explained before payment is close, giving the company time to keep cash apart.

Deadline

The CT600 prepared and submitted

The filing is completed alongside the accounts and included within the monthly package.

What clients say

One Abacus was recommended to me by several friends and I truly owe them a huge favour as this company has been exemplary! As a new limited company myself and a novice to the contracting world I have had tons of questions and they have been dealt with promptly, effectively and in an approachable and really helpful manner. I couldn't recommend One Abacus enough!

How the bill becomes known before it lands

Current books make it possible to estimate the tax and prepare the annual filing properly.

Before day one

Know what HMRC expects

We discuss the company, confirm the work covered and agree one monthly fee in writing.

Day 30

Bring the books up to date

FreeAgent or Xero is configured, the bank feed is linked and missing transactions are identified.

Day 60

See the likely company bill

The current position is reviewed so the business can keep suitable cash apart.

Day 90

Put every date in the plan

The payment, CT600 and year-end accounts deadlines are confirmed and taken off your desk.

When this monthly service may not fit

You only want a signature on a return or accounts prepared elsewhere.

You want bookkeeping alone rather than the company filings handled together.

The business relies on stock, tills or heavy retail administration.

The company is insolvent, is not paying its taxes or will not act on advice.

The quick questions will show whether the service matches your company and what needs doing next.

Questions to settle before the deadline arrives

Is a Corporation tax return included in the monthly fee?

Yes. The agreed monthly package covers the CT600, year-end accounts, payroll, VAT returns, the confirmation statement, the director’s self assessment, FreeAgent or Xero and advice during the year. The scope and price are put in writing before work starts, so a routine question or annual filing does not create another charge.

Can One Abacus help if I already have an accountant?

Yes. Once you decide to move, we ask for authority to contact your current accountant and request the handover information. We then confirm the next accounts, tax, payroll and VAT dates. There is no need to wait until year end, and the conversation stays focused on a clean transfer.

Do I have to move accounting software?

We work with FreeAgent or Xero, which is included in the monthly package. Ryan will first look at how your books are kept and explain what needs to move. The bank feed is linked, the software is configured, and you are shown the day-to-day routine before filings are taken over.

What happens with my current accountant if I switch?

After you authorise the move, we contact them for the information needed to continue the work. They finish or hand over tasks according to the agreed cut-off, while we confirm which deadlines now sit with us. You do not need to manage the exchange between the two firms.

When is a Corporation tax return due, and when is the tax paid?

For most companies, the CT600 filing deadline is 12 months after the end of the accounting period. Corporation tax is usually due 9 months and 1 day after that period ends, so payment comes before filing. Different rules can apply in some cases. We confirm the dates for your company and work out the amount ahead of payment.

What does One Abacus need from me before filing?

Current books are the starting point. We usually need the business bank feed, sales invoices, expense details, payroll information and anything HMRC or Companies House has sent. If something is missing, we explain exactly what to find. We only sign off work that we have prepared ourselves.
